Churches Cymru
Wales has a rich religious heritage, shaped by early Celtic Christianity and strong Nonconformist traditions. Churches and chapels are more than just buildings—they’re landmarks of faith, history and community resilience.
At Churches Cymru we offer a friendly and approachable consultancy service for those who care for these special places. If you need advice on looking after your building, community engagement, or welcoming visitors we’re here to provide practical, straightforward support.
Or are you looking to showcase your building’s story? We can help you highlight its heritage, beauty and community value—so more people can connect with what makes it unique.

Our Services
-
Community Engagement
Engaging your wider community is key to keeping your church alive and relevant. We support churches in developing activities and outreach strategies that welcome both locals and visitors and build meaningful connections between people and place.
-
Celebrating Heritage
We can help uncover and share your building’s unique history in ways that connect people — through activities such as open days, guided tours, and creative storytelling. Together, we can make heritage something everyone can be part of.
-
Caring for Your Building
Balancing conservation of an historic building with practical needs can be challenging. We can help you manage the process of planning maintenance and development projects, as well as applying for faculty permission.
Sarah Perons
Consultant, Churches Cymru
With a background in archaeology and historic building conservation, I have extensive experience working in the Church in Wales in roles focused on church buildings. My work has included advising on conservation best practice, delivering training events, and supporting church volunteers in caring for and developing their buildings and churchyards. I also acted as Llandaff Diocesan Archives Advisor.
During that time, I created and project managed the Churches Unlocked Festival, which encouraged churches across South Wales to open their doors to visitors, share their heritage and stories, and celebrate their role in community life.
In 2024, I launched Churches Cymru through which I now work as a freelance church heritage consultant, based in Cardiff but providing services throughout Wales. You’re welcome to contact me in English or Welsh.
Alongside this, I serve as a Commissioner for the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, where I contribute to strategic direction—particularly around Welsh Places of Worship.
